Geochemical Perspectives: 24 issues fully open access 

The EAG journal Geochemical Perspectives publishes invited contributions from leading scientists in various fields of geochemistry. Each issue combines science and history of the field’s development, with personal glimpses into the author’s scientific life. 

Created by and for the community, Geochemical Perspectives is fully open access and is a valuable resource for everyone in geochemistry or related fields.

Since its launch in 2012, 24 issues have now been published and are available to all. EAG members receive the print version of upcoming issues, and it is also possible to purchase print copies of past issues.

2023 Awards: Nominate a scientist!

Recognizing deserving scientists is at the core of EAG's mission. There are many discussions around the diversity of awardees, but as highlighted by Derek Vance, EAG President, in the blog post “EAG needs you to nominate a colleague for an award today!”, the key issue is the lack of nominations.

The EAG Award Nomination Committee is currently working hard to identify potential candidates and nominators, but we need the help of all the community to create a diverse pool of candidates.

Organizing a short course or conference in Europe or online in 2023? Apply for EAG sponsorship by 30 November!

The EAG Short Course and Conference Sponsorship Program is open to EAG members organizing a short course or small conference in Europe focused on special topics or techniques from the broad field of geochemistry. The program aims to directly support student attendance at the event. 

For events taking place in 2023, the application deadline is 30 November 2022.

Applications for online as well as hybrid and in-person events will be considered.

Submit a Thematic Proposal to Elements Magazine

Elements is an international magazine of mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry that reaches 15,000+ subscribers worldwide. Every issue explores a theme of broad and current interest, and serves as a timeless educational resource for students and scientists alike.

Elements February issue - Halogens: From Planetary Surfaces to Interiors

The halogen-­group elements (F, Cl, Br, and I) are common in the terrestrial inventory, though often present in trace amounts in many Earth and planetary materials. The halogens play a key role in a variety of geologic environments and processes, from mineralization to their influence on the composition of Earth’s atmosphere when released as oceanic, volcanogenic, and anthropogenic emissions. Halogens act as “fingerprints” of fluid­mediated processes on Earth and other planetary bodies. These “bioessential” elements are also critically important to human health. In this issue of Elements, we explore the role that the halogens play in shaping diverse planetary systems, from the surface of planets to their interiors. We also review the techniques that are suitable for the analysis of halogen elements and of isotopes of Cl and Br in terrestrial and extraterrestrial materials.

All EAG members have online access to current and past issues of Elements. Members who have selected to receive print copies of Elements, will shortly receive the latest issue by post (log into the EAG Membership Platform to verify your preferences and postal address).

EAG co-sponsored event: Forming and Exploring Habitable Worlds

The Inaugural Forming and Exploring Habitable Worlds Meeting (Edinburgh, 7-13 November 2022) is open for late registration until 21 October. Late submissions of abstracts will be considered by the committee.
