Join us on Wednesday 5 July at 14:00 CET for a short webinar to find out all you need to know about attending the conference and get tips on how to make the most of your Goldschmidt experience, whether you are attending in person or remotely. This event is open to all delegates but will be especially useful for first-time attendees and early career scientists. Sign up here.
Presenter instructions now available
Are you presenting at Goldschmidt2023? Information is now available for in-person and remote presenters to prepare their presentation, including key upload deadlines. Click below for full details.
Poster presenters at Goldschmidt2023 are strongly encouraged to prepare a poster teaser. Poster teasers are short video of maximum 1 minute that give poster presenters a great opportunity to advertise their poster and make their research more visible. The format of poster teasers is completely free and provides presenters with the possibility to feature their research in a creative way. Ideas and examples here.
Upload deadline: 22 June
Non-presenters can still register
If you are not presenting at the conference but just wish to attend in person or remotely, it is still possible to register at the regular registration rate.
Scientists in low-income and lower-middle-income countries (list of qualifying countries) benefit from a free registration for remote attendance (note, it is still necessary to register to join the conference remotely).
Lunchtime sponsor seminars and presentations
Our sponsors will be holding a number of seminars and presentations of interest to delegates at lunchtime (13:00-14:00) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All events are free of charge. Find out more.
Invite the 2023 Distinguished Lecturer to your institution this autumn
The 2023 Distinguished Lecturer Dr. Sandra Arndt(Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) will present three lectures covering different aspects of carbon cycle-climate feedbacks and their role in determining the magnitude and pace of climate change.
If your institution is based in Central or Eastern Europe and you would like to invite Dr. Arndt to present one or two lectures this fall, please contact the EAG Office.

EAG Sponsored Student Francisco Hevia-Cruz reports back from EGU 2023
[By Francisco Hevia-Cruz] I was very surprised, mind-blown, by the scale of the 2023 EGU General Assembly, there were so many researchers, posters, and presentations, that it was very hard to decide which sessions to go to and which sessions to pass...
Earth’s first glaciation at 2.9 Ga revealed by triple oxygen isotopes
We here report the lowest (∼3 ‰ VSMOW) δ18O values for any weathering-related sedimentary rock in Earth’s history, from shales and diamictites of the Mesoarchaean Pongola Supergroup of South Africa...
Inferred pyrite growth via the particle attachment pathway in the presence of trace metals
The morphology of pyrite has been used to infer ancient redox states and biogenicity. However, the influence of trace metals on pyrite morphology is poorly understood. Through batch synthesis experiments...
Final assembly of Gondwana enhances crustal metal (HREE and U) endowment
The South China Block hosts a variety of U and HREE mineralisation styles. The Yushui Cu deposit is located at a sedimentary unconformity and is enriched in HREEs and U. U-Pb ages of uraninite and xenotime...
River chemistry reveals a large decrease in dolomite abundance across the Phanerozoic
The abundance of dolomite in ancient carbonate sediments, and its apparent rarity today, has important implications for the coupled Ca-Mg-C-cycles in seawater and global climate. Despite its importance...
Bacterial use of siderophores increases olivine dissolution rates by nearly an order of magnitude
Mafic minerals, such as olivine, are an important source of metals and alkalinity to Earth’s surface, impacting the planet’s long term carbon cycle and climate. Yet, environmental controls on their dissolution...
The magma ocean was a huge helium reservoir in the early Earth
Helium from mantle-derived rocks bears in its isotopic ratios the traces of Earth differentiation, degassing, and long term geodynamic evolution. The low 4He/3He ratio of rocks whose origins arein the deep...
In a geologic triumph, scientists drill a window into Earth’s mantle
[The Washington Post] At an underwater mountain in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, scientists have drilled nearly a mile beneath the ocean floor and pulled up an unprecedented scientific bounty — pieces of Earth’s rocky mantle...
Petit-spot volcanoes involve the deepest known submarine hydrothermal activity, possibly release CO2 and methane
[newswise] Subaquatic volcanic activity within the Earth's crust significantly contributes various elements to the marine ecosystem. Thus, it holds vital significance in the ocean's biogeochemical and chemosynthetic processes...
650,000-year-old Permafrost Megaslump in Siberia is the Second-Oldest Ever Found; Scientists Use It To Know More About Ancient Climate Change
[The Science Times] A megaslump in Siberia has been frozen for around 650,000 years, making it the second-oldest permafrost ever found and the oldest permafrost across Siberia...
Iron-rich rocks unlock new insights into Earth's planetary history
[Phys.org] Visually striking layers of burnt orange, yellow, silver, brown and blue-tinged black are characteristic of banded iron formations, sedimentary rocks that may have prompted some of the largest volcanic eruptions in Earth's history...
Tectonics matter: Geoscientists probe geochemistry, microbial diversity of Peruvian hot springs
[Phys.org] South America's Andes Mountains, the world's longest mountain range and home to some of the planet's highest peaks, feature thousands of hot springs. Driven by plate tectonics and fueled by hot rock and fluids, these thermal discharges vary widely in geochemistry and microbial diversity...
