Not to miss at Goldschmidt2018!
Top talks: From 11:45 to 12:45 each day, head to Ballroom AB to listen one of the exciting talks from this year's plenary speakers. Goldschmidt is also the moment where we honour the outstanding achievements and advances made by geochemists from around the world. Be sure to add the fascinating award talks given by this year's medallists to your personal program.
|
|
Pop-up talks: For more inspiring talks but in quite a different style, pop along to Ballroom AB on Wednesday at 13:00 for an hour of creative and entertaining 5-minute Pop-up presentations by some of Goldschmidt2018's most passionate student delegates.

Elements August issue: Central Andes: Mountains, Magmas, and Minerals
The Central Andes in South America preserve the complicated interplay between tectonics, magmatism, and climate at an active continental margin. This “field-based” issue explores the development of the Andean Cordillera topography and provides insights into magma generation, volcanism, and ignimbrite “flare-ups”. Also explored in this issue are the origins and sources of the spectacular salt deposits in the Atacama Desert and the world’s largest porphyry copper deposits.

Nitrogen isotope signatures of microfossils suggest aerobic metabolism 3.0 Gyr ago
There is compelling evidence for early oxygenation of mid-Archean oceans. However, the biological use of molecular oxygen is still not ascertained. Here we report the nitrogen isotope composition measured in isolated microfossils (δ15Nµm)...

Mass-dependent triple oxygen isotope variations in terrestrial materials
High precision triple oxygen isotope analyses of terrestrial materials show distinct fields and trends in Δ'17O - δ'18O space that can be explained by well understood fractionation processes. The Δ'17O - δ'18O field for meteoric waters has almost no overlap with that of rocks. Globally, meteoric...

A summer camp for scientists!
[By Rebecca James] Recently, I was given the opportunity to attend the 2018 Gordon Ocean Global Change Biology conference (held in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire) as an EAG ambassador. Gordon conferences are considered ‘Summer Camps for Scientists”, and I couldn’t think of a better description! As I am nearing the end of my PhD, I was eager to attend this conference to meet...
