[By Bernard Marty] It is an honour, and a great pleasure, to become president of the European Association of Geochemistry. My first task is to thank Liane Benning for the fantastic job she has been doing over the last two years. Under her leadership, EAG has flourished as never before. Read more
[By Martin Mangler] In May 2008, Chaitén volcano in Chilean Patagonia erupted and provided the world with spectacular footage of the first rhyolitic eruption ever to be observed in modern times. But the 2008-2009 Chaitén eruption is not only remarkable from a geological point of view, but also in regards of its short- and medium-term crisis management... Read more
Geochemistry making the news
[BBC News] Temperature data for 2016 shows it is likely to have edged ahead of 2015 as the world's warmest year.
Data from Nasa and the UK Met Office shows temperatures were about 0.07 degrees Celsius above the 2015 mark. Read more
[Science Daily] Ocean Acidification: High-tech mooring will measure beneath Antarctic ice. Earth's oceans have soaked up about a third of the carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere by humans through use of fossil fuels and other activities. That's good news for... Read more
[Science Daily] For the development of animals, nothing -- with the exception of DNA -- may be more important than oxygen in the atmosphere. Oxygen enables the chemical reactions that animals use to get energy from stored carbohydrates -- from food. Read more
[Science Daily] When the Arctic coast retreats, life in the shallow water areas drastically changes. The thawing and erosion of Arctic permafrost coasts has dramatically increased in the past years and the sea is now consuming more than 20 metres of land per year at some locations. Read more
