Call for bloggers

If you are attending Goldschmidt2023 (9-14 July) and want to practice your outreach and communication skills, increase your visibility, or just share your experience, EAG is looking for you.

EAG will bring together a team of blog writers to cover the science and the social activities of the conference. Short blog posts (typically 400-500 words with photos) will be published on the EAG Blog website throughout the week, and may cover scientific highlights, plenary talks, social events, workshops, or the overall experience of attending the Goldschmidt conference. For your participation in the team, you will receive a free ticket to the social event of your choice. If you are interested in joining the team, please email the EAG office.

New Elements Issue: Exploring Jupiter's Moon Io

Jupiter’s moon Io is the best place to understand a fundamental planetary process that shaped terrestrial planets, icy ocean worlds, and extrasolar planets: tidal heating. Io is the most tidally heated world in our Solar System and may contain a magma ocean. Io’s spectacular volcanic plumes sustain the atmosphere and feed the giant magnetosphere of the Jovian system. The lavas covering its surface reflect heatpipe tectonics, which is analogous to the volcanically hyperactive youth of all rocky planets. Io is the ideal planet-scale laboratory to study...

Chernobyl was history’s worst nuclear disaster. Now it’s teaching geologists about the history of our planet

[The Conversation] Thirty-seven years ago, on April 26 1986, the reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant suffered a catastrophic meltdown. In the weeks that followed, the deadly event drove hundreds of thousands of people to relocate from the surrounding area, which is still a deserted “exclusion zone” today...
